Question About eBay Search Results?
When people use eBay's search function, where does the search bot look for keywords?
Understanding eBay Search
Titles are always searched on eBay. If the searcher clicks the search descriptions box the description is also searched. About half of eBay searches are done with the search descriptions box checked. A growing percentage of searches are done in category only.
Originally, the subtitle was ignored by eBay's search function. Currently the subtitle is considered part of the description.
Most eBay sellers use the subtitle incorrectly. I have seen sellers repeat the title, tell people to see their other auctions, and even one hopeful seller is using the subtitle to beg people to leave feedback so she can open an eBay store?
The best use for a subtitle is to explain features or condition of the item. Use the subtitle to tell the reader why your item is special. I went to eBay and searched for a good example, but it was difficult to find one. Here's the best one I could find:
Title: Large KENTON Cast Iron Sand & Gravel DUMP Wagon
Subtitle: Complete with two horse team / Excellent original paint
The seller does a good job of getting your attention and letting you know exactly what he is selling. Even if you knew nothing about toys, you would know the auction item is a dump wagon pulled by two horses made by Kenton. The important keywords are in the title - actually, the whole title is nothing but a string of key words, and the subtitle gives additional information.
