Review of Diana Ratliff's "How to Spot Fakes,
Frauds, & Forgeries, FAST!"
In May of 2004, I got an email
from Diana Ratliff. Diana was working on a book about spotting
fakes, and wanted some advice.
That's kind of flattering huh!
What a valuable resource.
Actually, I feel kind of jealous about the book. I could have written a similar book quite easily, but Diane beat me to it. Rather than compete with her, I helped her with the chapters on trains and toys.
I have said many times, the best way to learn is from others. Books are
a great way to learn.
In Diana’s book she covers a wide variety of items. Things
that you will find at garage sales and flea markets. Things
people will ask you to sell on eBay for them.
"How to Spot Fakes, Frauds, & Forgeries, FAST!" will prevent problems.
For example, I was at a local
dealer’s home a few years ago and he was showing off a really
rare and expensive train set. It was a fake.
He sold it as an original, and the buyer ended up suing him.
They went to court and the buyer had chemists testify about
the make up of the paint! My friend lost and had to refund the
buyer’s money and pay court costs.
This expensive and embarrassing problem could have been
avoided if my friend had sought out expert advice before selling an item.
"How to Spot Fakes, Frauds, & Forgeries, FAST!" is filled with expert advice. I wasn't the only one who provided expertise for the book.
I have dozens of books about all subjects. I have a rolodex
full of people I can reach out to when I have questions.
You must have a library of resource materials. You must have a
rolodex of contacts.
If you buy used items for resale at garage or yard sales, flea markets, estate sales, storage unit auctions, basically anywhere your library must include "How to Spot Fakes, Frauds, & Forgeries, FAST!"

PS. I made arrangements with Diana to be able to offer the book directly. I also lowered the price by $8.00
