Review of Stuart Turnbull's Prints Make Profits eBook.Stewart Turnbull sent me this email a few weeks back:
Hi Terry I have been a follower of yours for several years and I credit your "Auction Revolution" for helping me get started in online marketing. I have just updated my eBook "Prints Make Profits". It has been online since 2008 and is now in its third edition. I would be delighted if you would consider promoting it to your subscribers and followers, I'm sure they will love it! I really appreciate any promotion you can give it, Terry! Warm regards, He included a review copy of Prints Make Profits with his email. I was busy doing something else at the time, and told him to send me a note in a few weeks and I'd take a look at his ebook. This worked out well for you because Stuart interpreted my message as a lack of interest and sweetened the pot for you. His reminder email included a special link so you can get $10 off. I finally got around to reading Prints Make Profits this afternoon... When I first opened the ebook I was distracted by the background images and the old style typeface. I skimmed through the first 10 pages of Prints Make Profits quickly with the idea I'd tell Stuart the book wasn't a good match for my readers, but then the book grabbed my attention. Now, I've read hundreds of ebooks and reports about selling on eBay. I've written dozens of them myself, and interviewed hundreds of eBay sellers. So when I read an eBay report to see if it will help my readers - That's You! - I'm not looking for a new idea, I'm looking for clarity and repeatable results. Simply put, I'm looking for a clear telling of a simple system to make some money. In Prints Make Profits, Stuart has managed this well. His system is pretty simple, and he explains it well. Basically he's cutting prints out of old books and selling them on eBay. If you just started cutting up old books, and listing the pages on eBay, you'd probably get some sales, but you'd also end up with hundreds of prints that don't sell. That's hundreds of bits of your time invested in creating auctions that will never have a return. Stuart says rather than just buying books at random because they have pretty pictures - color is almost always better than black and white - there is an easier way. Prints Makes Profits explains how to find books with prints that will sell. He starts with prints people are buying that obviously come from old books, then goes step by step into finding the book in online used book stores and confirming the print is there. Many times when an old book has a full color illustrated plate, it will contain more than one print and many of them will sell on eBay. This means the cost of each print is a fraction of the cost of the book. Prints Make Profits says to start out selling prints without matting them. Mats are the cardboard surround that is used when a print is framed. Once you've done OK selling prints for a while, some of your prints will do better matted. Stuart doesn't explain which prints will bring higher prices when matted, he just says to test some. Prints Make Profits explains with pictures how to mat a print and based on his costs it can be done for under $4.00. Matting also ads to the postage cost so the test is to see if spending $5 on materials and extra postage, and a few minutes will add more than $5. to the selling price. The rest of Prints Make Profits explains listing the prints on eBay. There's not much there in terms of listing basics, mostly information specific to prints. If you've been reading my articles for a while, you won't need basic instructions anyway. Overall, Prints Make Profits explains a good system for making money on eBay. The book isn't aimed towards someone with a pile of old books who wants to get the highest amount for them. It's more of a guide for someone looking for a profitable eBay business that doesn't require a big investment in items to sell. One of the things that sounds good to me about selling prints is the space needed. I've got a 15 by 25 foot storage shed full of toys, plus a large collection of assorted boxes and packing materials. Stuart probably only has a few file boxes of prints, and a small stack of cardboard and envelopes for mailing them. If selling prints on eBay interests you, you can get Prints Make Profits for $10 less by using my affiliate link. Note: The page describing the book says the price is $27.00 in a few places, but you'll only pay $17.00. You can confirm this by clicking on the order link.
